BD Medical Surgical Systems R&D group conducts pre-concept activities and develops new technologies and products such as needles, syringes and intravenous catheters for medication delivery, pre-filled injection devices, surgical blades and scalpels, regional anesthesia delivery devices, and critical care monitoring devices. These innovative products serve customers such as hospitals and clinics, physicians’ office practices, public health agencies, and healthcare workers around the globe.

We are recruiting an R&D Staff Engineer who will be supporting our Environmental Sustainability Initiative.

Description:
As a Staff Engineer, R&D, you will be responsible for leading cross-business initiatives concerning new technology development efforts for BD’s next generation medical devices. Working in a cross-functional environment, you will provide senior leadership, advanced engineering skills, and project management skills to identify, plan, break down and solve complex problems, and provide technical direction to others. Using these advanced technical skills, you will conceive, plan and lead technical development activities from concept through successful commercialization.

You will develop an in-depth assessment of relevant next-generation technologies and products, and lead the evaluation and assessment of competitive products, processes or new trends, identifying gaps and opportunities. You will lead the project support of R&D IP strategy and processes and participate in a work environment that prizes scientific inquiry and basic fundamental first principles.


Additional information / requirements

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s or PhD strongly preferred allowing less experience) in technical field with a minimum of 6+ years experience in engineering preferably in the medical device and/or pharmaceutical industry with successful track record of delivering products to market or developing commercially viable technology.
• The successful candidate will have an advanced understanding of disciplined product development processes and regulatory and quality requirements.
• The successful candidate will have a comprehensive knowledge of environmental science principles and ecological impacts.
• An in-depth experience in at least one environmental sub-field is preferred such as: carbon accounting, life cycle assessment, or sustainable materials and related waste management.

Location: Franklin Lakes, NJ. Relocation assistance is available.
